WHAT YOU'LL DO
Electro-technical officers (ETOs) specialise in marine electronics. With advancing technologies, onboard electronics are becoming increasingly more complex and require highly skilled individuals to look after them. ETOs maintain and repair any equipment with an electrical element: from the computers monitoring the engine room to the radars and communication equipment on the bridge. ETO’s can progress to Senior ETO’s.
Courses:
Mathematics for Electrical Engineers, Applications of Power Electronics, Electrical & Electrical Principles and Systems, Engineering Science, Work Based investigation, Marine Management for ETOs, Electronic Control Principles, Electronic Control Applications, Marine control & computer systems, Electrical and Electronic Principles, Operation and Maintenance of Electronic Plant, Martine Navigation System, Fault Diagnosis, and Radio Communications.
The Fun Stuff:
Fire Fighting, First Aid, Survival Craft & Rescue Boat, Security Awareness & First Aid.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should fulfil the following criteria:
- UK Passport Holder (due to Government Funding Requirements)
- Minimum of 4 National Fives or GCSE or Equivalent
- Aged 17 ½ years old at the Start of Training
- Able to pass an ENG 1 Medical (unrestricted)
