WHAT YOU'LL DO
Engine officers work primarily below deck to ensure the safe and efficient running of the vessel’s engines and machinery. On a daily basis, engineers will be involved in the preventative and proactive maintenance of machinery, such as engines, generators, and fuel, water and ventilation systems. Engine officers can progress through the ranks to Chief Engineer.
Courses:
Marine Propulsion, Marine Legislation, Management Principles, Electrics, Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Ship Stability, Instrumentation & Control Principles, Ship Construction, Work Based Investigation, and Workshop Skills.
The Fun Stuff:
Fire Fighting, First Aid, Survival Craft & Rescue Boat, Security Awareness & First Aid.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should fulfil the following criteria:
- UK Passport Holder (due to Government Funding Requirements)
- Minimum of 4 National Fives or GCSE or Equivalent
- Aged 17 ½ years old at the Start of Training
- Able to pass an ENG 1 Medical (unrestricted)
